SOD Updates

First the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt preseneted by ARP event scheduled for Friday at Hartford Motor Speedway is still on as scheduled. Hot Laps are scheduled for 7:15 p.m. with racing at 8:00.

Secondly a rules clarification,

In SOD sanctioned races engines with All Pro brand cylinder heads are NOT allowed. After reviewing SOD rules it is determined that they cannot be used. Co sanctioned races with NRA are the only exception. So you can use them at Butler, Waynesfield, Fremont and Crystal’s July co-sanctioned event.

SOD apologizes for the confusion and inconvenience this might create. Thank you

Ron Blair Best at Eldora’s “Johnny Appleseed Classic”

By Bob Buffenbarger

Rossburg,Oh.- The SOD/NRA three race Ohio Weekend concluded Sunday night as part of the annual “Johnny Appleseed Classic” at Eldora Speedway, and Ron Blair put his stamp on this one as he dominated the 20 lap feature.

With a big crowd on hand, Blair shot out front at the green from his outside front row start. Fourth starting Butch Schroeder quickly moved into 2nd with Michigan’s Ryan Ruhl looking strong in the early going. The only caution of the event came on the 4th lap and Schroeder closed in on Blair as the green waved once again. However, Blair would have none of that and motored out to a substantial lead using the top of the track near the wall.

At the halfway point Ruhl was still 3rd behind the leaders with Jared Horstman on his tail.  Brandon Wimmer was stalking cars and by lap 14 had made his way to 3rd. In the late stages of the feature Horstman was able to dispose of Ruhl but Blair was in his own zone as he left everyone racing for position.

In victory lane Blair exclaimed, “FINALLY, a win at Eldora” and thanked his parents for the help and a smooth driving car. Behind Blair was Schroeder, Wimmer, Horstman and Ruhl.

Heats for the 33 cars on had were won by Wimmer who won heat #1 after Kyle Sauder flipped while leading.(Sauder was okay), Dustin Daggett, Beau Stewart and Schroeder. Todd Heuerman won the B main.

Waynesfield Goes to Wimmer

The Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP feature was picked up by Fairmount IN racer Brandon Wimmer who captured his first ever SOD feature win at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield OH.

A field of 38 winged sprint cars signed in to be a part of day two of the NRA/SOD Ohio tripleheader weekend. Wimmer took the lead over early leader JR Stewart and held off a late challenge by Stewart first, then Max Stambaugh. The eventual winner raced the track very aggressively and was extremely excited in the Waynesfield victory lane. “I’m very happy to be in victory lane here tonight and the car ran flawlessly today.”

The top five finishers of the evening for the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt Presented by ARP feature were- Wimmer, Stambaugh, Greg Wilson, Stewart and Butch Schroeder.

Heat race wins were captured by Dustin Daggett, Dustin Stroup, Shawn Dancer, and Stambaugh, the B mains went to Randy Hannagan and Beau Stewart. Two red flags marred the beginning of the feature; one involving Nick Roberts and Ed Neumeister, the second with Dancer and Ron Blair, all drivers were reported to be fine.

Lima,Oh. 5/24/13-Randy Hannagan capped off a night of hot action on a cool evening at Limaland Motorsports Parks by capturing the 25 lap SOD/NRA feature after making a late race pass of Michigan’s Ryan Grubaugh in front of a good crowd. Chasing the duo were Tim Allison, J.R. Stewart and Hud Horton.

A stellar field of 46 sprint cars jammed the pits and provided fans the chance to witness a fast paced, well run program on a very racy surface. Action began with five heat races on the 1/4 mile bullring. J.R. Stewart took the initial heat. Veteran Tim Allison won the 2nd heat race. Heat #3 proved to be the best of the night after Hannagan and Jared Horstman swapped the lead running side by side for several laps with Hannagan coming out on top. Also, Brandon Wimmer made a final turn pass for the transfer spot. The fourth heat saw Ryan Grubaugh shoot to the lead and was not to be denied as he was rocketing around the top of the track for the win. Shawn Dancer took the final heat of the night.

The large field of cars necessitated two 10 lap B mains with Cole Duncan driving the 7k machine winning the first, and Nate Dussel capturing the second B.

The 25 lap main event saw Grubaugh jump out to the lead from the pole and looked like the car to beat as Hannagan, who started next to Grubaugh, fell in line in 2nd. Tim Allison was running a strong 3rd with J.R. Stewart and Hud Horton in tow. A caution for Nate Dussel on the 9th circuit slowed action but it picked back up as the green flew with the same running order.

As the laps wore on, Hannagan was closing on Grubaugh and pulled even at one point with Grubaugh maintaining the lead. Hannagan made an inside pass stick on the 18th lap and that proved to be the winning pass as the 22H went on to take the checkers over Grubaugh, Allison, Stewart and Horton. In victory lane Hannagan stated “Ryan was really fast, but started to spin his tires a bit late in the race, allowing me to make a inside pass.” Hannagan also thanked his car owner for a “smooth driving machine.”

Tomorrow, Saturday May 25th the SOD/NRA shootout continues at Waynesfield Raceway Park.
