Ohsweken, ON — (September 15, 2012) — Steve Poirier became the first three time winner of the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals Saturday night at Ohsweken Speedway. Poirier battled back and forth for the lead with Dustin Daggett and pulled away for the victory.
After a false start sent the original front row starters back one row Jeff Cook would start on the pole of the 35-Lap feature with Poirer along side. Poirer jumped out front and led the initial circuit quickly stretching his lead as the third row duo of Dustin Daggett and Shane Stewart engaged in an early race battle for third as Shawn Donath held second.
On lap eight Stewart slid high on the track allowing Daggett to move into second just before the caution flew for a spin by Thomas Kennedy in in turn two. When the green came out again Poirer set sail but Daggett stayed in the hunt maintain second place.
Lapped cars now were playing a role as Poirer, Daggett and 3rd place Stewart had to pick their spots. Lap 16 saw Daggett pass Poirer for the lead but three laps later Poirer would retake the top position.
Daggett slipped up the track allowing Stewart by on lap 20 for second. Ryan Grubaugh would bring out the final caution for a spin in turn two on lap 31.
With several lapped cars between himself and Stewart, Poirer was not to be denied as he took the checkers ahead of Stewart, Huppunen, Chuck Hebing and Daggett
