Farewell to Mike and Cathie as They Ride Off to the Sunshine!

mikecathieSpecifically, they are riding off to the Sunshine State. Mike and Cathie had a thriving business here in Michigan which they have sold and they have purchased the same kind of business in Florida.

Under four years of Mike’s expert guidance as series director, Sprints On Dirt is in great shape. Unlike many businesses that sell a product to one kind of customer, an organization like SOD needs satisfy race fans, sponsors, promoters, and competitors all at the same time, and sometime individual agendas conflict. Mike did an excellent job of managing this complex relationship.

Mike not only managed SOD, but also has experience working with sprint car and late model dirt and pavement speedways and organizations. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Mike’s name pop up in association with some Florida racing entity someday.

Mike told me today: “Cathie and I would like to wish the teams good luck in 2015. We are going to miss the SOD fans, family and tracks. It was a great four years with the series and maybe we will see a few of the teams at East Bay next February. We will be buying a house in Fort Myers or Cape Coral in couple of weeks. Leaving Michigan on April 24. Have a great season!”

So as Mike and Cathie hitch up the horses to the wagon and start heading south, we wish them the best in their new venture and express our heartfelt appreciation for what they have done for SOD. They will always be part of the Sprints On Dirt family.

SPRINTS ON DIRT ANNOUNCES 2015 SCHEDULE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (February 16, 2015) – The Michigan-based Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt (SOD) Presented by ARP, under a brand-new Series Director, is excited to release their much-anticipated 2015 schedule.  The series, including several co-sanctioned events with the NRA Sprint Invaders, will visit ten tracks spanned across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Ontario, Canada for a total of twenty-three total events.

“For my first season as Series Director for SOD, I wanted to make sure everything was on point before releasing it,” noted Jamie Osborn.  “There have been some changes with several of our tracks for 2015 and we are very excited to be a part of those changes.”

Featuring an April 25 season opener at Crystal Motor Speedway in beautiful Crystal, Michigan, the 360 cubic inch sprinters will return twice more through the season, including for the Mike Olrich Memorial on July 18.  Michigan favorites, I-96 Speedway, Hartford Motor Speedway, Tri-City Motor Speedway, Merritt Speedway and Butler Speedway are all on the schedule for 2015 as well for multiple dates.

“We have possibly two to four more dates in the works, but we are very happy with the schedule that came together for this season,” said Osborn.  “We are also working on an internship program with a university here in Michigan that will provide teams and tracks with additional personnel to assist with promotions, technical duties as well as social media goals.”

Five-time series champion, Dustin Daggett is returning, along with the majority of the top-ten 2014 drivers, including Ryan Ruhl, Kyle Pitts, Brad Lamberson and Gregg Dalman.

Osborn’s goal for the series in 2015 is to add value for the tracks, promoters and teams through assistance with social media, event promotions and marketing.

“This is the era of social media and our goal is to work with everyone involved to grow their marketing and social media programs to put more fans in the stands.  Our team plans to do that by working with the drivers to create and utilize various forms of social media, work with the tracks to promote their events and facilities more as well as increasing the interaction with our fan base,” said Osborn

Driver registrations will be opening in the coming weeks, as well as information on the SOD Social Media program for 2015.

Sprints On Dirt is supported by Engine Pro, ARP, Engler Machine and Tool, Allstar Performance/Comp Cams/Lane Automotive, Butlerbuilt Racing Seats, Hoosier Tire, Brodix Cylinder Heads, MAHLE/Clevite, AFCO Racing Products, ATL Fuel Cell, Rocket Headers and JE/SRP Pistons.
