T.J. Buffenbarger, OWENDALE, Mich. (July 10, 2010) – Dain Naida won Saturday night’s Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP feature at Owendale Speedway during Super Race Day. Naida started on the outside of the front row and held onto the lead through several late race restarts for the victory. The win was Naida’s first of the season in ASCS SOD competition this season and second during his 2010 campaign.

“This is the first time my son has ever been at the track when I won a race,” said Naida while holding four year old son Darren. “My crew chief Dan McCarron made all of the right calls and the car was really hooked up in the feature.”

Jim Goetgeluck and Naida shared the front row for the 25-lap feature. Naida jumped into the lead early while Ryan Grubaugh and Louie Carufel swapped second place back several times during the first half of the feature.

While the first fourteen laps clicked off with no interruption, Naida had to wait through multiple cautions during the second half of the feature, including a multiple car accident involved Robert Huisken, Gavin Hunyady, Ben Rutan, Tank Brakenberry, and others.

Naida was able to pull away during each restart and held off a last lap challenge from Ryan Grubaugh, in which Grubaugh slid out of the groove and lost several positions. Carufel claimed the runner up spot with Davey Brown, Huisken, and Tim Champlin rounding out the top five.

Grubaugh and Hunyady won heat race events while Naida also won the fast car dash.

DAGGETT DOUBLES UP AT SOUTH BUXTON

Dalman and Justin Martin started on the front row of the feature, and Dalman quickly took command out front. The first caution flag flew before five laps were in the books, as Mitchell Brown spun to a stop in turn four after contact with Gavin Hunyady. Darren Long dropped out of the race during the caution period, forfeiting his spot in the top three.

Dalman, Daggett, and Martin broke away from the field when the green came back out, but only a handful of laps were completed before Dain Naida brought out the caution on lap eight. Naida was done for the night with broken parts in the front end.

Dalman continued to hold the lead as the race went green for a longer period, but Daggett was making up ground in the outside groove. Daggett was patient and made the winning move on the outside in turn 4 on lap 17.

One final caution for debris with 3 laps left gave the rest of the field on last shot, but Daggett was not to be denied. Dalman finished second, followed by Martin, Grubaugh, and Ben Rutan. Heat races were claimed by Kyle Patrick and Rutan.

DUSTIN DAGGETT CASHES IN AT OHSWEKEN’S NORTHERN SUMMER NATIONALS

Tommy Goudge, OHSWEKEN, Ont. (July 2, 2010) – Dustin Daggett and his crew brought a brand new car to Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night in search of the $3,000 Northern Summer Nationals winner’s cheque.

When the dust settled, Daggett was indeed standing in Engine Pro Racing victory lane after winning both his heat race and qualifying race, and leading every lap of the twenty-five lap feature.

Dustin Daggett and Glenn Styres started the twenty-five lap feature on the front row, and Daggett was on a mission right from the beginning. Tom Huppunen moved up from fifth to second on the first lap, and held the runner-up spot behind Daggett for the first ten laps until the caution flew for Kyle Moffit’s spin in turn two.

The green flag came back out with five lapped machines between leader Daggett and the rest of the field. Glenn Styres moved back to second after falling to fourth behind Ryan Grubaugh earlier in the race, while Huppunen was starting to have problems under the hood of his #12c.

Daggett was out front by a substantial margin as the race wound down to its conclusion, while the rest of the top ten spots were up for grabs. Only five laps were left to complete when twenty-third starter Bryan Howland made it into the top ten. Howland was up to seventh when the caution and then red flew for Moffit in turn four after contact with Daggett. Moffit emerged from his damaged machine uninjured, but was done for the night. Tom Huppunen also took the #12c to the pit area, ending his bid for a repeat Summer Nationals triumph.

All eyes were on Daggett, whose right rear tire had made contact with Moffit. Daggett was not to be denied his seventh career feature win at Ohsweken though, and got the win by almost four and a half seconds over Styres, Grubaugh, Dave Dykstra, and Bobby Breen. Hard charger Howland got sixth, followed by Mike Ling, Jared Zimbardi, Dain Naida, and Jim Huppunen.

“I was kind of wondering if that right rear was going to stay up,” said Daggett in victory lane. “It did get a little low on that red (flag), and the car was really tight those last couple laps, but it held up long enough.”

“I just gotta say thanks to my whole crew,” continued Daggett. “This is a brand new car. We put it together last week, and first night out on it, it seems to be a really good one.”

The track was much more slick and dry than it has been for other Daggett wins, and he commented on it after the race:

“Last year’s Canadian Nationals really made me mad, because we just went backwards in that and the car was junk,” said Daggett. “We got a different shock package for here this year, and it seems to be working out really well – the car was fast tonight.”

Heat races for the fifty-one car field were claimed by Kyle Moffit, Dain Naida, Glenn Styres, Dustin Daggett, Mike Ling, and Gregg Dalman. Qualifying race wins went to Daggett, Bobby Breen, Kevin Job, and Ryan Grubaugh, while Bryan Howland and Bubba Broderick got “B” MAIN race victories.
